The Laramie Project

In 1998, a 21-year-old gay man named Matthew Shepard was kidnapped and murdered just outside the college town of Laramie, Wyoming. Following the tragedy, members of Tectonic Theater Project wove together over 200 authentic voices from the community in a powerful tapestry of grief, reflection, and hope that became The Laramie Project.

Now, 25 years later, Tony Award nominee and Pulitzer Prize finalist Moisés Kaufman, Artistic Director of Tectonic Theater Project, revisits this landmark work—hailed as one of the most vital in the American theatre canon—with an all-star cast to bring this story to a new generation.

This historic live reading of The Laramie Project featuring Kathleen Chalfant, Brandon Flynn, Midori Francis, John Gallagher Jr., Pooya Mohseni, Kal Penn, Conrad Ricamora, and Samira Wiley was captured over two evenings in December 2025 at Audible’s Minetta Lane Theatre to honor the 25th anniversary of the revolutionary play that shook America’s conscience.
