Strong Poision

Book #6 in the Lord Peter Wimsey series.

‘Time and trouble will tame an advanced young woman, but an advanced old woman is uncontrollable by any earthly force.’

First published in 1930, Strong Poison is a gripping tale which features Sayers’s popular amateur sleuth, Lord Peter Wimsey. It has been adapted for TV and radio and is still widely read today.

Talented mystery novelist Harriet Vane is on trial for the murder of her former lover, Philip Boyes, after he dies of arsenic poisoning. Although the evidence appears damning, and the relationship was not a happy one, Harriet reasserts her innocence. It is a case that draws in gentleman detective Lord Peter Wimsey, who soon finds himself in a race against time to clear Harriet’s name. As he delves into a world of love, jealousy and misplaced justice, Harriet’s case becomes more personal for Wimsey than he could ever have expected… Told with Sayers’s trademark wit and intricately crafted plot, Strong Poison is a classic mystery whose characters still permeate modern culture.
