Shattered Campus: The Cal State University Fullerton Massacre

From the detective who caught the Parking Lot Rapist comes the inside true account of a massacre that shook a California community. On the morning of July 12, 1976, Edward Charles Allaway walked into the library of California State University, Fullerton, where he worked and opened fire, killing seven of his coworkers and injuring two others. To everyone who knew him, Allaway was quiet, hardworking, and unremarkable. But for months, something had been taking root inside him about his young wife that he couldn't silence, fed by the voices he was certain belonged to those he worked with every day. By the morning of the shooting, he had become someone none of them recognized. As the supervising detective assigned to the case, Lee DeVore draws upon official case files, court transcripts, newspaper accounts, firsthand interviews, and his own experience to reconstruct the tragedy and its aftermath. Through the eyes of survivors, coworkers, emergency responders, and a community forever changed by the violence, he examines the devastating impact of the massacre while offering law enforcement and school administrators insight into recognizing the warning signs of the next shooter.
