It Started with a Beehive

What if the most important thing you could give your children wasn't money, talent, or a carefully designed plan — but simply showing up?

It Started With a Beehive is the true audio memoir of Algot Sorensen — known to most as Big Al — a father who became a dad for the first time at forty-three and decided that not a single Saturday was going to be wasted.

What followed were years of lawn mowing at five dollars a yard, road trips across the country in borrowed trucks, a pontoon boat fire on the side of I-80 in Nebraska, a motorhome with cockroaches, a daughter who spray painted the brand new curb purple, and a son who put out a trailer fire at fourteen years old without being asked twice.

Narrated by the author in his own voice, this is a book about presence. About the ordinary Tuesday afternoons that turn out to be anything but ordinary. About a father who learned — sometimes the hard way — that the goal was never to win every conversation. It was to keep the door open for the one that mattered.

For every parent who has ever wondered whether showing up is enough.

It is. It is the whole thing.

Running time: approximately 4.5 hours. Narrated by Algot Sorensen.
